It is a beautiful, magical, picturesque town lost high in the mountains of the Sierra Madre western. A town intact by time and modern technology, You would be privileged to visit this colonial town in Mexico

However, this excursion is designed for people who enjoy history and culture. This town is bursting with both

The romantic town of San Sebastian with white stucco buildings, tiled roofs, and cobbled streets. Here you will see trees filled with hanging avocados, and a beautiful church. There is a local museum with even more history of the town, and delicious sweet breads in the local bakery. You will enjoy visiting picturesque towns located in the mountains away from everything. Remember here there are no supermarkets, no starbucks, or really anything modern

Tales and legends of the old mining town and the hacienda will make the history more imaginable, as you are walking around town down the same streets where the stories take place

History

San Sebastian del Oeste is a mining town that had its best moments in the colonial days where it reached 20,000 inhabitants. However in the nineteenth century, many of them left for other areas due to the closing of the mines

The guides are tasked with visiting the most famous places with you and will tell stories, and answer questions for anyone who may have them. The guides will also allow you to roam around on your own to discover what treasures you may find

Coffee is harvested and produced in an artisan way with recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, for more than 9 generations. Unbelievable!

Tequila

Beautiful tequila factory and tasting. These people know what they are doing!

You will be able to taste 9 different tequilas of course they produce their own tequila. They will explain the process of tequila making, and why it is important to distill it twice. A very interesting tour. They will also teach you how to properly drink tequila (it really makes a difference) they will give you samples of each of the varieties that they manufacture and will be given the opportunity to purchase the tequilas that they made. The taste is extremely smooth

"The tour to San Sebastian del Oestre should not be missed if you are anywhere near Puerto Vallarta."

"This was a wonderful historic and cultural tour. Our guide Carlos was extremely knowledgeable about this town and all of it's surroundings. We made a few extra stops to learn about jackfruit (jaca in spanish) and chicle sap. We stopped for a snack of hand made corn tortillas and various condiments. We visited an organic coffee plantation and artisanal tequila tasting. The authentic lunch was so delicious and plentiful. We were left in the town square to walk around the ancient town after our guide explained several important points of the town."

"The tour was very good and our guide Alberto was knowledgeable and friendly. Our driver Alberto was a real pro-he navigated some really narrow and high mountain roads with great skill. We enjoyed the tour. The hacienda Jalisco was interesting to see and we hope the Pueblo Magica group has the chance to continue with restoration and preservation. The village of San Sebastián was quite lovely, a small and sleepy little place. It would be really nice if you could see an actual silversmith as the silver mining is an integral part of the history of the place. There is one in town apparently however he was closed on the day we went on the tour (Saturday). We stopped for tequila tasting-if you haven’t purchased your quota of liquor to take home (unfortunately we had!)-the prices are really reasonable and the orange tequila liquor was brilliant. We had a lovely lunch and a coffee plantation stop to round out the tour. Very good value for all the things we did!"

"We took the all-day tour to San Sebastian, an old silver mining town in the Sierra Madre about 1 1/2 hrs van ride from Puerto Vallarta. Our guide keep all 15 Americans and Canadians entertained the entire with stories about the region and tales of the old mining town and hacienda. The local silversmith provided us with jewelry "gems" at cut rate prices. The authentic 4 course Mexican lunch and tour of a local coffee farm rounded out a full day's worth of life in the back country."

"What a great day trip. From start to finish, it was a really neat experience. Our driver Rafa and guide Diego where awesome! We learned quite a bit about the Mexican cultural, visited a few different places including Panaderia Bakery (food was one of a kind amazing) a Hacienda, which is even being used as a B&B, the town of San Sebastián—church, shops, jail, silver workshop, and museum. Had a real Mexican lunch which was a 5 course meal (3 types of meat, soup, salad, different breads, and dessert with a few different drinks to try. Day came to a close with a tequila tasting and fun trivia games on ride home (air conditioned van). Great time with a little bit of walking, but all in all a pretty chill experience."

"My favorite part of this tour was our tour guide Gabriel. He is so knowledgeable and personable. Omar did a fantastic job driving for us as well and we always felt safe. Learning the history of Mexico, about the hacienda in San Sebastián and the families who live in San Sebastián was super interesting. The lunch and dessert was delicious, and the crew made special plates for anyone wth dietary restrictions. Stopping at the bakery was a lovely touch as well. The coffee plantation and tequila tasting were interesting - though not necessary to the tour, those businesses support the town so it was important those parts were included. I recommend you go on this tour for the history/culture and the slow, relaxed pace."

"Rarely have I received such consideration from a guide as I received today from Gabriel on a tour to San Sebastian del Oeste. He has a delightful personality and ensured that everyone on the bus felt that he was truly interested in them as individuals and wanted, above all, that they were enlightened as to the history of Mexico and San Sebastián. He is humorous , articulate and very knowledgeable about the evolution of events nationally and how this impacted on the town since 1600. He supervised a Mexican banquet for lunch, even assisting with the service, enthusiastically lead the group of 30 around an old hacienda, tequila tasting, coffee plantation and the charming town centre. Two of our group had mobility issues and he went above and beyond in ensuring that we were assisted without making us feel that we were a bother."
